Hi All!

Just a quick update to let you know what has been happening in room 19 recently, and what is coming up over the next three weeks.  We have just finished our Mathematics strand unit on position, orientation and transformation, the final results were impressive, with all students making a marked improvement from their pre test results.

This coming Monday we have the Year 7/8 Cantamaths competition. We have spent the past week practicing problem solving and are planning on dominating the other classes in the syndicate.

On Tuesday we will start our numeracy side of mathematics focusing on fractions, percentages and ratios. This will take us through to the end of term.

Our main focus currently is our inquiry project. Students are in groups of five,  each student is writing one newspaper article, a letter to the editor and they also have a job within their group such as editor, sports, advertising, photography etc.  The final two weeks of this term students will be piecing their newspaper together.

Our reading program will continue to be focused around newspaper articles.

Our class has also produced some excellent pieces of artwork which you will be able to see on display next week.  They have been studying Beastman and Banksy during the class interchange.

Over the next three Thursdays,  room 19 will have  ICT for their interchange and the final rotation will see us with Mr Roberts for science.

Finally a big congratulations to all the students who competed in the zone swimming sports today.  We have 12 students who have qualified for Canterbury.

Thanks,

Mr P

Camp Photos

From the 10th-12th March, the Year 7/8 syndicate enjoyed all that Waipara Adventure Camp had to offer.  It was awesome to spend time with all the Room 19 students and our amazing parent helpers.   We had a huge amount of fun and really began to come together as a class.  Great job guys!

Senior Art Interchange

Visiting Street Artist - Jay
We were lucky to have Jay (Trinity's brother) talk to our class about his experiences as a street artist.  He discussed with us how his street art name of Drake came about and where he gets his inspiration from.  It was great to have a look through some of his sketch books.  What a clever guy!  Thanks Jay!
